LandlordBC Landlord Registry™ provides database of registered landlords

A new registry for landlords in BC has launched. The goal is to bring a new level of professionalism to the rental housing industry and help bridge the gap between landlords and tenants.

The LandlordBC Landlord Registry™ is a new tool developed by LandlordBC to help educate and certify landlords with any number of units. Focused on the Residential Tenancy Act (RTA), landlords are expected to educate themselves on the Act through a special course. The course familiarizes landlords with the RTA – the basics that every landlord needs to know.

Following the course work, landlords complete a test and once they achieve an 80% grade they are registered and receive an ‘I Rent It Right’ certificate.

Registered landlords are part of a database renters can search when they are looking for a landlord. For landlords, the certification is a marketing tool – recognition of competency. It is also a tool that they can use as an ongoing resource to help answer questions and settle disputes.

LandlordBC is governed by a volunteer board of directors, made up of rental property owners and managers, who are respected industry professionals, including chairman Jason Middleton, president and owner of Cornerstone Properties Ltd.

Benefiting tenants and renters

While the mandate of LandlordBC is to support landlords and property managers in British Columbia, the ultimate beneficiaries are renters and tenants.

Recognizing that tenants are the customer, landlords must work hard to meet their unique needs and to keep them happy. After all, a happy and contented customer makes for successful and stable enterprise.

The registry provides tenants the ability to vet and select the best landlords and property managers and to avoid less than desirable circumstances with uninformed landlords. Tenants can search the database HERE
